Fire Drills and Fire Safety Training

Training content

All employees receive basic training, since anyone at their own workplace can both contribute to fire prevention and be the first to notice an incipient fire. Training conveys hazard awareness, site-specific fire safety rules such as housekeeping or smoking bans, correct behaviour in the event of fire, and the practical use of portable extinguishers and hose reels. New or internally transferred employees need a separate induction, as they are particularly exposed at an unfamiliar workplace.

Drills and performance checks

Regular announced or unannounced evacuation drills test whether alarms, escape routes and assembly points actually work in a real event and expose organisational weaknesses before a genuine emergency occurs. Results are documented and feed back into adjustments of the training programme and the emergency plan.

Relevance for insurance

Demonstrably trained and drilled staff significantly shorten response times and limit injury and property damage. During a survey, risk engineers check whether training intervals were kept and drills documented, since missing records point to a fire safety management system that is not genuinely practised.
