Fire Protection Regulations (Brandschutzordnung)
Fire protection regulations set out organizational and structural fire prevention measures and behavior in the event of fire for a building or business.
Concept
Fire protection regulations are a set of rules establishing organizational, structural, and behavioral fire prevention measures, as well as the procedure to follow in the event of a fire, for a building or business. In Germany, they are typically based on the DIN 14096 standard.
Structure
A common structure divides the document into three parts: Part A is aimed at all persons in the building and contains basic rules of conduct; Part B is aimed at persons without special fire protection duties and contains more detailed guidance; and Part C is aimed at persons with specific fire protection responsibilities, such as fire wardens or evacuation assistants.
Relevance for Risk Assessment
For insurers and risk engineers, the existence and actual implementation of an up-to-date fire protection regulation is an important indicator of the quality of a company’s fire protection management and regularly feeds into the risk assessment of industrial and commercial risks.
