Risk Improvement Recommendations and Tracking

Risk improvement recommendations are the prioritised loss prevention measures derived from property risk surveys, and their systematic tracking through to completion is an integral part of effective risk management.

Origin and content

Recommendations arise from property risk surveys, new construction and renovation reviews, loss investigations or special-purpose visits. Each one identifies a specific deficiency, the required measure and typically a completion deadline; boiler and pressure vessel recommendations may carry statutory deadlines as well.

Evaluation and tracking

Before implementation, cost and benefit are weighed, often through a cost-benefit analysis comparing the potential loss with and without the measure. Outstanding recommendations are held in a register with status, ownership and due date, and are reviewed at least annually together with the risk engineer; incomplete recommendations remain a standing item at every follow-up survey.

Insurance relevance

The completion rate of outstanding recommendations is a key criterion in risk grading and influences underwriting capacity, conditions and premium. Safety-critical recommendations that remain repeatedly unaddressed can lead to restricted terms or a decline to renew.
