Fire Protection Water Tanks
Fire protection water tanks store the water volume required by sprinkler and other fixed extinguishing systems on site, whenever the public supply alone is insufficient, and secure its availability for the entire required discharge duration.
Construction Types
Fire protection water tanks are built from steel, concrete or coated fabric and installed above or below ground. Capacity is based on the calculated water demand and the required supply duration; the tank is connected to the pump set through a suction line and, where applicable, to the public main.
Operational Reliability
Freeze protection is achieved through heating, sufficient burial depth or insulation. Continuous level monitoring, protection against contamination and algae growth, and periodic internal cleaning are part of ongoing maintenance. Inspections must verify the actually available water volume, not merely the nominal capacity.
Insurance Relevance
A fire protection water tank is only as reliable as its fill level and condition when needed. Frozen, partially emptied or heavily contaminated tanks are among the commonly overlooked weaknesses that can completely undermine the effectiveness of an otherwise correctly designed extinguishing system.
