"body": "## Function\n\nThe assistance centre is the operational core of business travel accident insurance. It can be reached by phone and digitally at any time and takes over coordination when an event occurs: initial medical advice by physicians, referral to suitable hospitals and doctors, guarantees of payment and direct billing with providers, monitoring of treatment, organisation of medical evacuations and repatriations, notification of relatives and employer, replacement of travel documents and medication and, on the security side, situation reports, travel warnings and the execution of security evacuations. Insurers operate their own assistance companies or work with specialised providers such as International SOS, which maintain worldwide assistance centres, network physicians and security analysts.\n\n## Distinctions\n\nTravel assistance within BTA differs from stand-alone assistance insurance – which bundles services for breakdown, illness or emergencies for private individuals – through its embedding in the corporate policy and its focus on medical and security support for employees. Many wordings make involving the centre a condition of entitlement: under the ERV wording, SOS benefits must be approved in advance by the alarm centre, otherwise reimbursement is capped at a small amount per person and event. Assistance providers can additionally be engaged as pure service providers – without insurance – for traveller tracking, pre-travel briefings and country information.\n\n## Practical Note\n\nDecisive factors are the quality of the provider network in the regions travelled, the languages spoken by the centre, integration with the travel management system and the question of who decides on an evacuation in a crisis – insurer, provider or employer."
