"body": "## Distinction from ordinary compartment walls\n\nWhile ordinary compartment walls target a defined loss extent within a single operation, firewalls are intended to prevent fire spread to neighbouring buildings and therefore must meet significantly higher requirements: a higher fire resistance class, resistance to impact from collapsing structures, and extension above the roofline. Complex partition walls go further still, dividing a large facility, from an insurance perspective, into independent risk units with different hazard profiles, for example production and warehousing.\n\n## Structural requirements\n\nComplex partition walls must run uninterrupted through all storeys, remain stable as free-standing structures even if adjacent elements collapse, and permit only very limited openings with equivalent closures. Interference from later installations, such as rooftop photovoltaic systems near the wall's path, must be specifically addressed at the design stage.\n\n## Insurance relevance\n\nThe arrangement and quality of firewalls and complex partition walls directly affects the magnitude of the Maximum Foreseeable Loss, and therefore underwriting capacity, deductibles and premium. Missing or breached complex partitioning is a common reason why insurers set lower limits or additional conditions for a given location."
